Tools and Resources
- Building a
Content-Rich Classroom Web Page by
Kathy Schrock, on the
DiscoverySchool.com page
- How to Conceptualize Your Web Site
- Initial Storyboard (planning) phase, from the ElectricTeacher. This
site, Electric Teacher, has lots of useful links and ideas.
- Purpose
of a Classroom Web Page - Electronic Teacher
- How to Create a Classroom Web page -
from http://cybersleuth-kids.com/
- TeacherWeb.com
- a commerical site, but it has
some interesting features and examples,
such as a whole list of
things, including ABC Soccer Team
- 30-minute Web Sites for
Teachers - a commercial site, but
it is useful in terms of providing an option to doing it and also for
providing samples of features you might want to add, even if you don't
use them. THere's also a 'free' demo you can try. We do
recommend using commercial sites, but some teachers do this.
- Creating Classroom
Webs - This site was designed to
help educators in setting up and their classroom web page. A classroom
web is a site that teachers create that can be a valuable resource to
parents, students, and/or other teachers. This site will take you
through the steps you need to get started. Click on the links below to
begin your journey into the new wave of "electronic resources".

ADDITIONAL EXPLORATION
- What Makes a Good Site? - (from
Right in Class) -
Right in Class has lots of links and topics that are useful. The
specific one on What Makes a Good Site is a quick listing of things to
consider when developing your site, plus some useful links.
- Rubric for Use with Classroom Web Pages
- by
Joan Vandervelde University of
Wisconsin, Stout
- Danbury, CT School District has a resource for teachers
for Creating Web Pages for Your Classroom. From there you can move to
RESOURCES
which includes a fabulous source for Creating a Class
Web Site. This page, http://www.danbury.k12.ct.us/Elemweb/createweb/resourses.html,
even has links to the WORST web pages! Studying these can even be
helpful.
- Some possible tools and external links for your pages
might be found here: Teaching Ideas from I.C.T Ideas
- From IMS Web Tips, good list of design Do's and Don'ts. though
may have some terms that are unusual to you (meta tags).
- Another Dos and Dont's List. It's from KillerSites.com
- Bits and Bytes Web Design Do's and Don'ts.
- Harmony Intermediate School Design Do's and Dont's - This Loudon,
VA school district has this as a resource for teachers and students. It
is really one of the best and most appropriate for teachers, we think.
- Greece, NY Web Page Guidelines (Schools) - This is
terrific for its rationale, explanations and details included for
guiding web page development; there are also great links to other
schools' policies and guidelines that can be used.
- You CAN Create a Class Web Site -
Education World Web Wizards are also provided by
Educational World; some of the links no longer work but some do. These
are pretty good examples of pages.
- Sophisticated Development Tools and Tutorials - from
W3Schools.com; this has all kinds of free tutorials, but they are
fairly sophisticated. However, some teachers find them useful and
have actually learned to use these tools.
CLASSROOM AND TEACHER PAGES:
These have been included
because they all have
different
looks and approaches to school and classroom pages. Some will
have
things that you like and others will help you determine what you DO NOT
want.
Elementary Classrooms
- Mrs. Zakowski's
Kinder"garden" - Central Fall, Rhode Island
- Del
Ray,
California Elementary School - Look at the types of things
offered
on the school page and how it is organized for access.
- Garden
Road Elementary School, Poway, California - Look at how the kindergarten
teacher (Ms. Gosen) uses her classroom web page, including Clifford
the Interactive books. Ms.
Bevill's page for 1st grade might provide ideas, too. This is
a 3rd grade example, Ms.
SABOURIN, that shows some different features, such as homework
(though it has not been kept current!).
- Bluebonnet
Elementary School, Round Rock, Texas
- Patterson
Literature Magnet School, Houston, Texas, - Look at the front
page to get a sense of how it was structured. Consider the look and
content.
Click on OUR
SCHOOL.
- West

pages contain primarily photos, but some do contain other
information
for students and parents, such as Ms.
Unger's 2nd grade and Ms.
William's 4th grade.
- Connors
Emerson
Elementary School, Bar Harbor, Maine - Check the classroom
pages.
- Pembroke
Elementary School, Pembroke, Florida - Check their introduction,
which
includes their mission statement. On the Table

staff
for inclusion. Look particularly at the Virtual
Resource Center. Click all around the site. You will see that
the mission statement really does drive the design and what is
contained
on the site., such as the resources page for students
and
teachers. There are, however, no real classroom pages.
- Ms.
Pearson's 3rd Grade - This has great graphics and an
easy-to-use navigational system. Look at the parts and pieces; you
might have some ideas there to use.
- Mrs. Tonneson's
1st Grade - There are some interesting components and animation.
- Mr.
Roemer's 5th Grade Polar Bears - This site has the usual

the elementary pages.

several clever additions, including her graphics folder and a
24/7 gradebook

is becoming a huge time saver for teahers. It's a great way for parents
to keep up with the grades without contacting you! Click
around on this page for ideas; it may not be current on all pages but
the ideas are useful, such as her vocabulary and study guide page.
- Dr.
Altman's Physics Page - He has some unique features, such as
'science alumni', which adds interest, as well as a section called
