BACKGROUND on
this
topic
Increasing,
with Internet-based file sharing, it is feasible that intruders may try
to enter your computer's hard drive. There are certainly stories
about such privacy invasions cited in the popular press. The stories
range
from identify theft and also file theft or distruction on someone's
hard
drive. Obviously, companies are concerned about the security of
data
stored on their computers, but you, as an individual, should also be as
alert and wary about the prviacy of your computer files as you are
about
your wallet that contains credit cards, etc. For this reason, we
have included a software application in this course that is intended to
help you protect your valuables on your computer and let you know when
someone is trying to enter your harddrive. Here's an article
by Dr. Anna C. McFadden (Dr. MAC) on our faculty, explaining why ZONE
ALARM
or something like it is important to have.
Zone
Alarm
There
are several programs that will alert you to possible requests for

from your computer hard drive, but we have chosen to use ZONE
